October 10th, 2001 Pluto is 5 light hours away. That means that whenever we look at Pluto we are looking back 5 hours in time because it takes the light refracted from Pluto 5 hours to reach Earth. In this same respect, if an alien from a planet orbiting the star nearest us were to look at Earth they would see a progection of Earth from 4 years ago. They're seeing back in time. (The nearest neighboring sun is 4 light years away).
